Question

I am developing a grading rubric with four categories. The most total points a student can receive are 10. How do I designate points to each category?

I am sorry I cannot answer your question as asked with the information you provided.
Please give me more information. I will say however, that a rubric is not, or should not, be
about a number of points. If you are using a rubric what you should be recording is the
level of performance of each student so if it is a four level rubric you would have four
scores of 1, 2, 3 or 4 to a record or if only want to record one score it should be each
students most consistent level of performance. If we are doing assessment correctly in a
standards-based system it should be based on levels NOT points or percentages.
