Question

I teach 6th grade math. We have a school policy that students can retake tests. How do I motivate students to do well the first time I give the test instead of relying on the retakes?
Many students will get their test and ask (before they even look at the test) "Can we retake this?" It's like they are planning to do a fly by before they actually decide to land the plane.

Require significant "correctives" before they can take a reassessment and, at least some of
time, have the retake when they would prefer to be socializing with their friends or playing
sports.
