Question

I am an administrator of a school district that has moved to stadards
based grading with a 3 point scale for grades K-6th. The 3 identifies
the standard is met. Some parents are wondering if this fails to meet
the needs of advanced students or "take away the notion of excellence"
since we no longer report A's. Thoughts?

I have no problem with a 3 point scale as basic issue is "met" or "not met." It is important that
teachers challenge all students to achieve at the highest possible level and when students
excel this should be acknowledged through other communication than report cards and
grades- teacher talking to student/parent, e-mails, phone calls, etc.
