Question

I am a first time teacher and I have to establish a grading scale.
I have decided that 60% of the students grade will be assessments,
20% of the students grade will be homework, and 20% will be
quizzes. How do I determine how many assessments, homework
assignments, and quizzes to give?

Kiara, all the best for your first year. Homework and quizzes have no place in grades.
Grades should come entirely from summative assessments and you should organize
your assessments and grade book by standards not by assessment methods or
activities. I suggest you ask to join the Standards-Based Learning and Grading
Facebook group and join twitter chats like #Col at 9 ET on Mondays and #sblchat at 9
ET on Wednesdays (starts Sept. 9th). Also I suggest you read books by Dueck, Nagel,
Guskey, Wormeli and maybe even one of mine.
