Question

With standards based grading at the high school level, what is your opinion re: allowing things to be retaken? What about for AP classes? Should other types of things be used to assess learning beyond tests/quizzes?
Thank you.

If it is feasible reassessment should be allowed with two conditions; 1. absolute - there
must be evidence of "correctives" being undertaken before reassessment, and 2. optional -
opportunity cost - not necessarily when it is convenient for the student.

What about for AP classes? Should other types of things be used to assess learning beyond
tests/quizzes?
You obviously have to prepare them for the final exam but I see no reason why classroom
assessments in an AP course should not be a combination of "write, do, and say" as
Damian Cooper would identify appropriate variety in assessment.
